Mall to host a fiery edu-fun game for youngsters on school break and parents

Here is a burning question: how many of us are familiar with proper fire drill protocols in the event of fire emergencies in public places such as shopping complexes? Surprisingly, most of us are found to be lack of information on even the most basic fire safety.

With that in mind, Tropicana City Mall in collaboration with Fire Prevention Council Malaysia (FIPCOM) and Junior Chamber International Kuala Lumpur (JCIKL), takes a step further in enhancing its patrons’ shopping experience and interests by organising a Fire Safe Shop-A-Hunt, a fun way of learning fire safety and prevention for young children and parents alike during the upcoming school break in June.

The fun shopping hunt will be held on Sunday, 13th June 2010, with the event kicking off at 9.00am at the Main Atrium, Ground Floor of the mall. Fire Safe Shop-A-Hunt will see its participants hunting for a number of clues that are based on the various outlets in Tropicana City Mall to in order to complete a set of tasks. Children from each team will also get to do Fire Safety Workshop and “My Hero” drawing competition (children will have to bring their own drawing material). The team to finish the hunt in the shortest time and with the most correct answers will be named the winner.

The winning team will walk away with RM500 cash prize and RM500 worth of Tropicana City Mall shopping vouchers. The 1st runner-up team will be awarded with RM400 cash prize and RM400 Tropicana City Mall shopping vouchers, while the 2nd runner-up team will receive RM250 cash prize and RM250 worth of Tropicana City Mall shopping vouchers.

Fire Safe Shop-A-Hunt is opened to teams of 3 or 4 persons, with two adults and one or two children aged between 4 to 12 years. Registration fee is RM80 per team, and each team will receive one FIPCOM Fire Extinguisher (worth RM59.90) and one self-contained Smoke Alarm (worth RM69.90). In addition, each participating member will get goodie bags consisting of Home Finder magazine and discount vouchers from Tropicana City Mall outlets, plus breakfast and lunch refreshments will be provided before and after the hunt.

台北县芦洲大火，部分民众不谙逃生常识导致严重伤亡，有些民众企图用绳索逃生，结果直接坠下楼。

防火宣导队志工陈音芝表示，这次火灾看到很多民众不会用逃生器材，平常他们在社区宣导防火常识，在民众配合意愿不高下，很难挨家挨户顺利宣导，甚至有民众不让他们进去宣导，如果大家都能有正确防火知识预防火灾，就不必付出这么大的人命成本。

陈泽渊表示，火灾时如果没办法逃出去，从高楼跳下反而容易致死，这时候应该躲到浴室把全身喷湿，用湿毛巾把门缝堵好，然后身体蹲低让鼻子尽量靠近排水孔的新鲜空气，耐心等待消防队员前来救援，消防队员逐搜索时都会先搜索浴室，获救的机率很高。
